There are many islands in the Caribbean, but only a rare few are consistently in the ultimate list of destinations. St. Lucia is one of those unique islands located in the West Indies part of the Caribbean. It’s well known for it’s iconic Pitons, the striking volcanic peaks duo that is a natural wonder. The Pitons are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area, selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance, which is legally protected by international treaties. The sites are judged to be important for the collective and preservative interests of humanity.

If you’ve ever seen Superman II in the 1980’s, Superman flies between these two peaks and lands at a waterfall to pick Lois Lane some Birds of Paradise flowers. How romantic!
St. Lucia is one of the world’s leading honeymoon destination that offers Lovers more than just romance. It’s also a true island of adventure.
We just spent a week celebrating a huge birthday milestone for me. Although I don’t feel 40, I still have to digest the fact that I am. However, what we discovered on this island were wellness treatments, healthy foods, and active lifestyle that will make you feel 15 years younger!
If you want the ultimate experience in service, food, and be center of it all- then Viceroy Sugar Beach is the perfect full service resort. The resort is over 100 acres of lush property grounds. It is uniquely located right in between the infamous Pitons. Staying here, you’ll be right in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We were fortunate to stay in the Grand Luxe Villa. They gave us a major upgrade from the Luxe Cottage we originally booked. It could’ve been for my birthday, being a Virtuoso client, maybe even a travel writer, or a combination of all these things. Whatever it was, we were extremely grateful for the incredible Villa and hospitality we received. The upgrade was about a $5k difference for the week and had a major impact on our unforgettable experience.
We’d like to personally thank the management of Viceroy Sugar Beach for the incredible hospitality they gave us. The major Villa upgrade and impeccable service made our celebration unforgettable. We already miss paradise, thank you!
We’ll be taking a tour of our Villa and Viceroy Resort amenities today and why it should be added to your bucket list.

Accommodations
Transportation
Expect world class service and the finest accommodations at Viceroy Sugar Beach Resort. Your services can begin as soon as you arrive to the airport. It is highly recommended to have the resort arrange transportation to and from the airport. We were kindly greeted with cool towels and bottled water after a long 5 hour flight from our layover in Atlanta.
Viceroy has drivers that can easily meet you at their stand that says “Sugar Beach.” This can assure a comfortable transition as it is about a 45 minute drive to the hotel. The vehicles they use are also clean and comfortable sedans or resort vans. Cost is $75 each way.

The Grand Luxe Villa
The check-in process was quick and easy. We were kindly greeted at reception and everything was already prepared for our arrival.
Our Grand Luxe Villa was nothing less than fabulous. This 1 bedroom and 2 bath villa had plenty of space for both of us at 1,015 square feet. It had amazing ocean views and sunsets that we enjoyed daily from our oversized plunge pool and private patio.
Most all of the accommodations at Viceroy Sugar Beach are standalone units from cottages, bungalows, villas, to private residences to accommodate any size family. Each unit has it’s own plunge pool and varies in size and style.
The price for The Grand Luxe Villa is $1,900 per night before taxes and service charges during high season. It may or may not come with breakfast depending on your package. You can choose to add on half or full meal boards for a surcharge, otherwise the food would be à la carte.

The bedroom is so romantic with a 4 poster bed and draped mosquito netting. I really appreciated the spacious layout of the ensuite. The closet and shower were large. We enjoyed taking relaxing baths in the Victorian-style claw foot bath. We stayed for a week and it was nice to have full size bath amenities of salts, soaps, shampoos, and lotions.

The separate living room was comfy with a relaxed beach decor. The fridge and bar was well stocked with drinks and snacks. Some drinks were complimentary and others had surcharges. The room snacks were chargeable to the room but every night they left us complimentary house-made treats with our turn down service. Even better, they left the recipe cards too!
We were greeted with some welcome treats, our itinerary, and movie tickets.

They knew we don’t drink alcohol but there was still some available in our room. They do accommodate special requests, so if you have a favorite drink they can stock it for you.

Insider Tip: St. Lucia is rather mountainous with steep paths and walkways similar to San Francisco or Seattle. If you have health concerns or bad knees, you may consider a beachfront bungalow where you can just walkout to the beach. Otherwise, the resort runs on shuttle service for all guests and they are prompt! Never waited for more than 5 minutes for a shuttle.

Butler Services
For the ultimate world class service, our Villa came with not 1 but 3 butlers that rotated around the clock to fulfill every request. They were super helpful getting us around the resort, organizing our Villa, getting our shuttles, preparing us for our itineraries and excursions, and even looked after my hubby getting food poisoning the first evening from our flight.
Do not eat the chicken in Delta First Class!
For 24 hours after our flight in St. Lucia, my hubby had food poisoning. If there’s any place to be sick, this resort is it! Our butler Swahil made sure my hubby had enough bananas, ginger ale, ginger tea, and delicious homemade stock soup for his ailment.
Hubby loved the bananas so much! That’s all he was able to eat and they were fresh from the surrounding local farms. He said they were they best tasting bananas he ever had.
To communicate with our butlers, the room came with a resort cell phone already preprogrammed to to reach them. With a touch of a button, our butler was ready to serve. This was extremely handy to carry around the island and get service any time we needed. If we were at the pool, beach, restaurant, spa, excursion- we could reach our butler for anything.
At the end of our trip, we wished we could take our butlers home. They spoiled us!

Restaurants
There are 4 main restaurants and several bars and lounges onsite: The Terrace, Cane Bar, Great Room, and Bayside Restaurant- all have dining menus. The Beachside Bar and Palm Court Bar & Lounge are great for leisure drinks, afternoon tea, and snacks.
The Terrace Restaurant
The Terrace Restaurant is where they serve breakfast with beautiful views of the lily pond and lush landscaping. Depending on the package you choose will determine if breakfast is included. As Virtuoso clients, it was included in our package.
The dress is casual and it’s only open for breakfast from 7am-10:30am daily.

We’re not the earliest risers, but it was really easy to get up for breakfast to catch the sunrise at The Terrace Restaurant. Breakfast is served until 11am but last seating is at 10:30am.
For a cold breakfast or continental, it is served in large buffet room full of fresh fruits, baked goods, healthy parfaits, yogurts, nuts, charcuterie meats, and much more. Hot items are ordered à la carte style if you’d like egg entrees and breakfast meats.
Our favorites were the house-made smoothies, any poached egg dishes, and their own gluten free granola with coconut yogurt, yum!

Cane Bar
Cane Bar is their Sushi House and Japanese inspired cuisine. It was so delicious, we had to dine here twice in a row. It has such cool vibes with a lounge, interesting art, and a Snooker room.
With the ambiance, I’d say the dress is smart casual. Open for dinner only and a great place for late dining from 6pm -1am daily.

The menu, though, was dynamite. Our favorite sushi was the Kiss of Fire. Other items that are a must include the Gyoza and Shrimp Tempura. Anything shrimp at this resort was outstanding in general. the gyoza was made with this gravy sauce that was out of this world delicious. Chef said it was a reduced sauce made of butter and ponzu sauce. We will attempt to make it at home it was so good.

Great Room
The Great Room Restaurant is their formal dining room and it is quite fancy. I noticed the Grand Piano right away. The main dining room is very beautiful, but on a perfect night everyone is seated on the terrace to enjoy the lovely views.
The common dress here would be smart attire to semi formal, although I did see some finely dressed guests too. Open for dinner only from 6:30pm -10:30pm daily.

The menu is quality versus quantity. It is not extensive but offers specialties that are well executed. The items that grabbed our attention were the Foie Gras for the appetizer, the Beef Tenderloin for the main entree, and the Guanaja Chocolate for dessert.

Bayside Restaurant
Many good things happen at the Bayside Restaurant. It’s a casual beach side restaurant that serves up a variety of items. It serves both lunch and dinner daily. It also provides poolside service and special private dinners on the beach or in the Kabi. Our favorite night not to be missed are Fridays when they have their Beach BBQ!

Hot Tip: Do not miss the Beach BBQ Buffet every Friday night at the Bayside Restaurant. The spread is incredible with live local Reggae band.

Casual dress and open daily for Lunch from 12pm-3pm and Dinner from 6pm-10pm.
We ate here for lunch and dinner a couple of times but the Friday Night Beach BBQ was our favorite!
Hot Tip: Whatever you do, try the Local Goat Stew. It was ridiculously good and an easy favorite of the evening.
Travoodie Queen
We’re usually not big fans of buffets, but they had many of the items freshly served to order which was excellent. The kabobs with house-made sauces were so tasty. The ceviche bar was impressive. For dessert, the crepe and flambé bar went the extra mile. It was fantastic.

Palm Court Lounge and Beachside Bar
For the in between hours of the restaurants or if you just want a snack or drinks, the Palm Court Lounge or Beachside Bar serve wonderful snacks and drinks. If you like Afternoon Tea, the Palm Court has tea service from 3pm-4:30pm. We were always doing something and didn’t really chill at either of these places, but they looked lovely walking by.
The Palm Court is open daily from 3pm -11pm and the Beachside Bar from 9am-11pm daily.

Insider Tip on Service Charges: It is important to note that this resort includes Service Charges in all of their transactions. The accommodations, restaurants, transportation, spa, etc…all include a 10% service charge in addition to the 10% VAT taxes. You may provide additional tips upon your discretion, but know 10% is already included. We did tip extra for above and beyond services.

Private Beach Dinner Celebration
For my big birthday celebration dinner. We planned a private beach dinner celebration. They set up the location on the beach and provided suggested 5 course dinner menus we could select from or customize. This was arranged in advanced and the cost was $165 for location set up and then $165 per person for dinner.
I loved how they set up the ambiance on the beach and we were escorted through a path of tiki torches to a private table for two. The food was all very good.
All I wanted to do was twirl around in my pretty pink dress aimlessly on the beach. I’m just glad I didn’t fall flat on my face, ha!

Gym and Fitness
The gym is located at the peak of the resort and at the base of the Piton where many guests come to catch the breathtaking views of the bay between the Pitons. It is also next to the tennis courts which we were delighted to see. It was nice to rally after 5pm and then watch the sunset at the peak.
The gym has really nice equipment and open 24 hours. There’s also a schedule of fitness and yoga classes that are available to guests. Some are complimentary and others have a $10 surcharge. We were too busy to tryout the classes, but the gym and tennis courts had everything we needed for a great workout.

Rainforest Spa
The Rainforest Spa at Viceroy Sugar Beach Resort is uniquely built into the rainforest. The treatment rooms look like treehouse huts. We had the Couples Hot Stone Indulgence. It included a foot bath in the beginning , 50 minute hot stone massage, and finished off with a mini facial for the perfect sun kissed complexion. The coconut oils they used felt so amazing on our skin and helped ease the sun irritation.
We then had private time to ourselves to enjoy the rainforest and a bottle of sparkling cider. Usually, a bottle of Prosecco is given at the end. The champagne was substituted with sparkling cider as we don’t drink alcohol.

The Couple’s Hot Stone Indulgence was a wonderful treatment to do together. We could hear the birds singing and chirping during our service. The heat from the hot stones do all the work so there’s no need for deep pressure. It was an invigorating experience and much needed after all of our adventures around the island.
The cost of the Couples Hot Stone Indulgence is $525 before taxes and service charges.

Beach and Pool Amenities
They don’t call it Sugar Beach for nothing. Viceroy Sugar Beach Resort has 2 white sandy beaches and 1 main pool onsite. They actually import the white soft sand from Guyana. The natural sand is dark due to the volcanic minerals. It can be seen in other parts of the island.
Resort Pool
The main pool area is just below the well manicured lawns and borders the beach. The views are stunning all around. At night, the pool lights up and sets a nice mood to the ambiance. We spent a day a the pool and enjoyed a wonderful lunch.
The only downside to the pool area is the limited number of umbrellas available. When we asked for one to be set up, they said the few we saw were all they had. Thankfully, a nice couple was leaving and let us have their shaded spots under an umbrella.
The food was excellent at the pool. This was where I first tried their Shrimp Caesar Salad and had several more throughout our stay. Same goes with the wood-fired pizza, it was a nicely done thin crust. Their mocktails were deliciously made with fresh ingredients.

Beaches
There are 2 beaches at Viceroy Sugar Beach. The main beach which borders the pool has the Bayside Restaurant and the main pool area, and the other beach is located on the Private Residence side that guests can use at their leisure.
Both are wonderful with 2 different experiences. The main beach has a lot more action and near the food. The private beach is further down and has a bar so you can at least get drinks. It’s a lot more quiet and a great place to getaway from the crowds. We liked the main beach during the day and the private beach at sunset. We’ve never seen an overwater hammock before, so it was nice to chill on one watching the sunset.
We really appreciated how they keep the beaches super clean. We saw them comb the beach constantly.

After Sunset
After the sunsets, the resort lights up in mood lighting perfect for night strolls. It’s just as beautiful in the evening as during the day. We would walk around then layout on the beach just looking at the twinkling stars above. We saw many shooting stars and looked really cool shooting over the shadows of the Pitons.

In the heart of the Pitons…
